Blog Tour: Take Me Down (Guest Post & Giveaway)

Lauren Hawkeye joins us today on Secrets, talking about how music inspired the stories of her new series "Erotic Me."  Now, I don't know about you, but I often give the books I'm reading a soundtrack.  There are songs I hear on the radio that remind me of some of my favorite books.  For example, Monster by Skillet always reminds me of Lover Eternal by JR Ward.
The secret side of me, I never let you see
I keep it caged but I can't control it
So stay away from me, the beast is ugly
I feel the rage and I just can't hold it

Anyway, it's awesome to know that authors are inspired by some of the songs that we hear every day.  So please help me welcome Lauren as she explains the songs that inspired her series.

Thanks for having me!

Many authors are very inspired by music. They have whole soundtracks that they listen to over and over while writing a book.

I am not normally one of these writers. Usually, I need silence to create the words of a story. The Erotic Me series, however, was different. Below is a list of the songs that played the most while I was writing these four stories.

“Weak In The Knees” by Serena Ryder inspired Take Me Down. I guess if you listen to the lyrics, this is kind of a sad song, but it is probably my number one sexy feeling track. I just love the poetry in her lyrics... “I’m weak in the knees for you/ But I’ll stand if you want me to”. In Take Me Down, Lucas gives Evie the strength to stand on her own, and to see herself as he does.

“If It Kills Me” by Jason Mraz was a song that I first heard on So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 (I am an addict of the show). I found the dance that accompanied it to be pretty sexy, so maybe that’s why I find the song sexy. But I felt that it perfectly represented Barbara and Ethan’s relationship... “All I really want to do is love you/ A kind much closer than friends use”. Barbara always thought that she and Ethan were just pals, she his best buddy’s geeky big sister, him her brother’s annoying friend. Or maybe not...

“I Only Have Eyes For You” by Jaime Cullum “You are here, so am I/ Maybe millions of people go by/ But they all disappear from view/ And I only have eyes for you”. So, so perfect. Nate and Eric are both gorgeous men—gorgeous men who already have a relationship of their own, together—but they both want Linda. Linda may not understand it, but they both are truly attracted to her, truly want her.

“Turning Tables” by Adele was a song that I first heard the Glee version of, and I didn’t care for it much then. When I heard Adele sing it in her smoky, sultry voice I was hooked. This is actually also kind of a sad song, but one lyric—“God only knows what we’re fighting for” summed up Imogen and Ty’s relationship at the start of the story perfectly. It became a raw, powerful song for me, one that scraped emotions bare while I was writing.

When my husband, who is a radio deejay, saw my list, he informed me that these songs are not at all sexy. Well, I grant that they are not traditionally so, but each of them has something that tugged at my gut. And without them, I probably wouldn’t—I’m not sure I’d go so far as to say couldn’t, but definitely wouldn’t—have written these stories.

What are some songs that make you feel sexy, obviously seductive or not?

  4. I can't really think of any specific song. If I had to pick one, it would be DEVILS DANCE by Metallica. Not really a sexy song, but the beat is great.
