Welcome to Friday's installment of Writing Romance! Today, author Loribelle Hunt is joining us and I can't be more excited! Loribelle is the author of Kiss of Darkness (my review here) which I absolutely loved! Please help me welcome her as she discusses why she chose to write paranormal romance.
First I want to say, thanks ladies, for inviting me to participate! I love to visit blogs (though I’m horrible at coming up with ideas for them) to talk about my little obsession with books.
When Kelly told me the feature would be about writing romance, my first thought was I’m not sure I’m really qualified! That probably seems like a silly thing for an author to say, but when it comes to mechanics or rules or plotting, I am so not your girl. I think mechanics you learn as you go, rules are made to be broken, and plot is a four letter word. ;)
So I’m going to stick with the more general why I love and write romance, and in particular, paranormal. Judging by my local bookstore’s shelves, I’m not alone in my love of the genre. The paranormal (or supernatural, spec fiction, etc) is everywhere these days. On the romance, fantasy, and YA shelves. In television and movies. It seems we’ve developed a national obsession with all things weird. I think there are a few explanations for that.
- It’s just cool and you can get your fix in any way imaginable. Vampires, werewolves, demons, and angels—sometimes even in the same book! What’s not to love?So tell me, what do you love about paranormal romance and who are your favorite heroes? I’m always on the lookout for a new guy!
- Let’s face it, it’s a scary world out there these days. Between wars, natural disasters, and the economy who doesn’t need a little escape? And if we’re escaping, why not escape into something scarier?
- Sexy heroes. Okay, this is partly 1 and 2, I suppose, but it deserves its own mention. Nothing is better than a bad, sexy, irresistible hero. I couldn’t possibly list all of my faves, but Lora Leigh’s Seth and Lara Adrian’s Tegan are right up there. (From my own books, it’s impossible to pick a fave, but Marcus is pretty high up there.)
Invation Earth, along with some great book swag! All you have to do is be a follower and answer Loribelle's question in a comment. Then, just fill out the form to enter. Please note, a comment with your answer is required but you will NOT be entered unless you fill out the form below.
