Book Review: Eternal Hearts (Jennifer Turner)

Toni Tutoro just wants to go home. Banned from Chicago's vampiric society after cutting a swath of violence through the city, she must now successfully complete an investigation for the Lord of Chicago to regain the right to live in her hometown again.

To ensure Toni's safety during her probationary period, Drake Black, a feared assassin, is secretly contracted to protect her. Even with direct orders to keep his relationship professional, and his own personal vow to never get involved with a female vampire again, Drake finds himself drawn to Toni in ways he can't explain. But unbeknownst to him...he's tied to one of the people who drove Toni to her night of destruction.

Drake's legendary heritage holds the key to Toni's survival and success, but will she be able to forgive his connection to the brutal night that robbed her of those she loved most? Will Drake be able to forget the betrayals in his past and risk taking one more chance? But most of all - can they find a way to reach each other in the darkness?

Jennifer Turner transforms the usual paranormal romance novel into an intense, emotional and passionate  love story.

Toni is scarred, still battling the grief over losing her family in a brutal and violent attack.  Guilt ridden over not being there and distraught over never getting one last chance to tell her family how much she loved them, she vows to always wear her heart on her sleeve.  No one in her life will ever have to wonder about how she feels because she will always show them with conviction and clarity.  There is nothing ambiguous about Toni and that's how she likes it.

Drake is guarded, closing himself off to anyone who might get too close.  Using sarcasm and wit as a barrier, he keeps everyone at a distance, including Toni.  He knows that her heart aches for her family.  Charged with the duty of protecting her, he quickly finds that his need to keep her safe has little to do with his job description. And though it is forbidden due to his assignment an he has vowed never to fall for another female vampire, he can't help but want to get close to Toni.  But to do that, he will have to let down his guard which means he will have to risk having his heart broken.  Again.

Drake and Toni start out on rocky ground but soon discover that their passion is burning up and the intensity of their emotions overflow into the attraction they have for one another.

Of course, there is more to this novel than just a love story but for me, it's timeless.  The story of Drake and Toni can stand alone without the other elements that are included in this novel.  That's not to say that I didn't enjoy the rest of the story.  The suspense and drama only added to the intensity and I had a really hard time putting this book down.

I loved this book!  The characters were deep, emotional and flawed.  They spoke to me and tugged at the heartstrings.  And the story was just as brilliant.  There are some elements in this book that seemed like loose ends but this is the second in a series and I haven't read the preceding or following books so I can't be sure that they aren't elements that are a part of the series.  Either way, I can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series!

Heat Factor:

Steaming up the windows!  The passion and intensity between Toni and Drake is almost palpable through the pages.  There are some pretty hot moments and you won't be disappointed!  For a sneak peek, check out my Sexy Snippets from Tuesday.

Overall, I would recommend this to fans of paranormal romance, vampires and love stories.

  1. Hi, Kelly! I just wanted to stop in quick and say thank you for reading and reviewing Eternal Hearts. :) I'm really glad you enjoyed the story. And I'm also super excited to hear you didn't read Eternal Seduction first and still understood the vampire world. I was worried that EH couldn't stand alone like I first thought, but you made me feel so much better! :) So THANK YOU! :)

P.S. I'm really looking forward to being here on Monday for the interview & giveaway! :)
