Book Review: Halfway to the Grave (Jeaniene Frost)

Synopsis:

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father--the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner--are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her new found status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Review:

What's not to love about this book?  This was such a fun and exciting read!  So where to start . . .

Cat is strong, independent and bad-ass.  She has no fear and is relentless in her pursuit of vampires.

Bones is sexy, strong, protective and dangerous.  What more do you want in an alpha-male?  He instantly takes a liking to Cat and takes her (somewhat unwillingly) under his wing.

The story was intense, riddled with danger at every turn.  Chasing vampires, creating alliances with ghouls . . . there was no shortage of excitement.  It's not a rainbows and sunshine romance.  There is a lot of blood and gore as Cat and Bones take on some seriously dangerous (and some not-so-dangerous) vampires.

The budding relationship between Cat and Bones was intense, too.  The attraction isn't instant but I think it made for a more interesting relationship between the two main characters.  One of the most noticeable dynamics to their relationship is that both Cat and Bones are alpha characters.  This creates a lot of tension in the story but also adds to the intensity of their attraction to each other.

Rating:

I really loved this book.  It was so quick for me to read because I had a hard time putting it down.  The storytelling made me want to know more about Cat and Bones.  The plot as well as the characters were well developed and there was a nice cliffhanger at the end!  Definitely a favorite!

Heat Factor:

Breaking a sweat!

There is definitely some heat brewing between Cat and Bones.  You can feel the passion throughout the book and Bones's protective nature adds an endearing quality to the relationship.  The relationship isn't fully developed by the end of the book which leaves plenty of room the the next in the series.

Overall, I loved this book.  Definitely pick this one up if you're a fan of paranormal romance and some serious action scenes.
