ARC Review: Forever Vampire (Michele Hauf)

Vail the Unwanted is a pureblood vampire. But raised in Faery, he has neither home nor peace, and when his aid is sought in the recovery of a priceless diamond gown, his price is information. Specifically the whereabouts of his accursed father. His goal is revenge, and the supernaturally sexy Lyric, the icy blond vampiress with whom he must work, is a distraction he can't afford.

Outwardly as cold as the diamond dress in which she was kidnapped, Lyric has her own secrets. Desperate to break free from her criminal family, she aligns herself with the brooding Vail. Together they seek justice while each secretly works for freedom and a fresh start. For Lyric that means holding herself apart, even from the smoldering blue-eyed Vail. For Vail, it means a battle to the death for revenge—and for a temptress he can't deny.

I was impressed with this book.

I liked Vail, though it took me a few chapters to really get into his character. His bad boy look sets his mood throughout the book. He has his moments, but Vail is a tortured soul, never feeling accepted or loved by anyone, never knowing where he belonged and struggling with his identity. My heart ached for him and I was really hoping he found happiness throughout the entire book.

Lyric is everything I love in a heroine. Despite her reputation, she is caring and nurturing. She gets off to a bad start with Vail, but soon she realizes there is more to goth looks. She has her own issues as well. Inside she is torn between the love and loyalty she has for her family and the truth that she hates to admit.

The story was dark, gritty and almost electric. It was charged with excitement, danger, emotion and passion. Fighting addiction, Faeries and inner demons, Vail and Lyric learn to rely on, trust and eventually love through it all.

I really enjoyed this book.  It was exciting and intense.  I found it hard to put down and I was cheering for Vail and Lyric through the whole story.  It also took me through a wide range of emotions which I always love in a book.

Heat Factor:

Breaking a sweat!

There is no denying the passion between Vail and Lyric.  They get off to a hot start and the flame never dies.  For a peek at their first encounter, check out Sexy Snippets: Forever Vampire.

Overall, this is definitely a book I'd recommend for fans of paranormal romance.

Forever Vampire is scheduled to be released on April 19, 2011
